Fleetwise Truck Appraisers

FAQ

Is there a Kelley Blue Book for semi-trucks?

No, there is no true Kelley Blue Book equivalent for semi-trucks. KBB's consumer tool is built for passenger cars and light-duty pickups, and it doesn't decode a Class 8 tractor's VIN or price out the specs that actually drive semi-truck values.

Semi-truck valuation works differently because two trucks with the same year and model can be worth very different amounts depending on:

  • Engine and transmission configuration: horsepower rating, manual versus automated manual, and axle ratio all move value significantly.
  • Mileage and hours: heavy-duty trucks are often evaluated on engine hours as much as odometer mileage.
  • Emissions equipment and spec: DPF/SCR systems, sleeper versus day cab, and axle configuration all factor in.
  • Condition and maintenance history: documented service records carry real weight in a commercial unit's value.

Industry-specific guides such as Price Digests and Black Book exist to fill this gap for dealers, lenders, and fleets, and they're a reasonable starting point for a ballpark figure by VIN. But these tools produce a market reference point, not a defensible, USPAP-compliant valuation tied to your truck's actual documented condition and comparable sales.

If you need a number that will hold up for insurance, a loan, an estate filing, or a legal matter, a professional truck appraisal from a credentialed appraiser is the more reliable path. Our reports are prepared in accordance with USPAP and reflect your specific truck's condition, history, and comparable market data rather than a generic guidebook range.
